We believe in a true home-school partnership.
Describe specific programs in place to ensure that families are involved in the success of your school and students.
We have a strong PTSO (Parent-Teacher-Student Organization) that meets monthly, and welcomes all voices and families for students grades 6 through 12. We emphasize that "Parent" is an inclusive term that welcomes ANY/ ALL legal guardians.
Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
Our dual-enrollment initiative allowed us to forge valuable partnerships with our local colleges and universities. This partnership has allowed students college-level academics, as well as Campus-life exposure, and given the colleges the opportunity to build relationships with potential students.
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
A point of pride is being at the forefront of developing a dual enrollment partnership with a local university, where students can earn up to 24 college credits. This unique opportunity creates access for students to experience classes on a college campus, and provides staff a chance to be adjunct teachers, while continuing to work in the school building.
Identify the critical professional development activities you use to improve teaching and student learning.
Restorative Practices and Family Engagement professional development activities have been critical for the support of ALL students and families.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
The school’s success on the 2019 standardized tests comes from a belief in a true home-school partnership, where communication and connection with families is a priority. Additional achievement can be attributed to the many inclusive opportunities available to the students. Christiana is most proud of the way ALL students, staff, and families are celebrated, whether small or large -- This is what motivates our school community.
