We believe that screening and early intervention combined with progress monitoring, will significantly close the achievement gaps and set our students up for long term academic success.
- Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
- One of our goals is to establish a strong connection between our school and community early in the year. This past August we hosted a back to school event that included dinner (served by our local fire fighters and provided by out PTO) and volunteers who performed live music. This event, along with our open house night in early September and a variety of activities throughout the year, help to establish and strengthen our ties to the community.
- Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
- The initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement would be our reading intervention program. We believe that screening and early intervention combined with progress monitoring, will significantly increase the likelihood of closing achievement gaps and set our students up for long term academic success
- Explain how ESEA federal funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
- Federal funds are used to pay for our Reading Specialist, supplies and materials, and to assist in funding after school tutorials and summer school for those students who are eligible.
- Identify the critical professional development activities you use to improve teaching and student learning.
- One of the critical professional development activities that we have used to improve teaching and student learning was a recent training we received on evidence based practices when it comes to RTI. The training allowed us to reflect on our current practices and make modifications where appropriate.
- Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
- Collecting student data and utilizing it to inform instruction is instrumental in our overall academic success. Our state (Idaho) is currently transitioning to the new iStation assessment which provides our K-3 teachers and Reading Specialist with individual student data to help guide instructional decisions. In addition, we are in our third year of using MAP (NWEA) which is an adaptive assessment that allows our 3rd - 5th grade teachers to focus and plan instruction / interventions based on individual and class data.
