Emerado Public School
Emerado, ND
We take great pride in providing, serving, and communicating with our families."
1. Tell us about your school’s success.
Emerado Public School has been in a recent transition to measure and address needs through a multi-tiered approach to learning or MTSS. Within the MTSS process, we can address learning needs, curriculum, interentions, social-emotional learning, and supplemental supports for the greater of our transient student population. We are in year 3 of the process to dedicate sacred timeframes to develop relationships, small group or individual instruction, and collaboration. We have intentions of enhancing this through an innovation center, team-building, and opportunity to continually evolve with our students together.
2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
Factors that weighed into the positive change we have seen is the flexibility of multiple roles our staff has moved into, as well as the caring nature of providing not just educational needs, but home lives as well through providing essential needs to all families. Many staff members in our district are in dual roles and have carried out the requirements necessary for success. Superintendent/principal, classroom teacher/bus driver, title/cook, social worker/counselor, paraprofessional/janitor, and business manager/secretary are just a few examples of services and time we serve for the well-being of our students.
3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
ESEA funding will be used to hire support staff for a more personalized environment as well as update and review new math interventions.
4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
NDMTSS year 1 and NDMTSS Pathways year 2 teams have received training and have helped with the schoolwide implementation process. Team members meet weekly to address needs or modifications to our multi-tiered systems of support. All staff members have an explicit job to carry out with fidelity that has shifted from several initiatives, plans, research, etc., to narrowing down to one, which has been the process of MTSS for us.
5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
The cultural shift Emerado has experienced has been drastic and positive. Time to collaborate for our staff, and a foundation for social-emotional learning each day with our students has provided a family sense of belonging. Our teachers have worked hard to build relationships with our students and academically have created opportunities for create, collaborate,
6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
Community involvement has been strengthened through multimedia sources, the bulldog basics program that commits to serving the families of the community with household essentials, cleaning supplies, and food available to all families within the district. We have a community that is highly transient with a high percentage of poverty stricken students. Within our population, 99% of our student qualify for free/reduced lunches. We take great pride in providing, serving, and communicating with our families. These methods have increased over time and go hand-in-hand with the growth our students have shown.
