Our goals provide a clear and shared focus throughout the year.
- Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.

Hamilton’s on-going improvement process supports the implementation and sustainability of the successful learning environment that has been created here. The Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) documents the analysis of data, identifies strengths and weaknesses, and lists the annual goals. Action Plans are included for each goal’s objectives. These plans describe the activities to be done, the person’s responsible, and a timeline with start and end dates. The CSIP serves as a road map as we travel through the year.
The improvement process begins once spring state assessment scores are made available. The staff spends three days at the end of summer break to analyze the data, identify the strengths and weaknesses, and create the action plans to be followed. Data analysis includes identifying student strengths and weaknesses, looking at trends over the years, and checking for any significant gaps in scores. This process requires open communication in large groups, small groups, grade level teams, and mixed vertical teams. Once the current data has been analyzed, then goals are set based on the identified weaknesses. The goals provide for a clear and shared focus throughout the year. Staff members easily share ideas without fear of judgement and action plans are created.
The CSIP is a continuous work in progress that is shared with district administration, community members, and families. The supportive learning environment allows ALL staff members to teach challenging curriculum, remediation, and enrichment activities to ensure student success. Staff members share ideas and work together in alignment with the set goals for the year.
Frequent monitoring of teaching and learning is done throughout the year. Teachers, parents, and students are all involved in setting student goals, monitoring progress, and making modifications as needed. The assessments administered are aligned with standards and meant to be used to monitor progress. Student successes are celebrated and results are communicated home to parents. The improvement process doesn’t stop there. The cycle of analyzing data, making adjustments, collaborating with others, and communicating with all involved continues throughout the year.
Hamilton staff members focus on the Washington State Eight criterion and how to best utilize each criterion to increase engagement, understanding, and achievement. By using the Danielson Professional Practice Framework of Teaching Components every educator at Hamilton establishes three professional goals per year. Two goals for academic growth as measured using specific data trends, and one professional growth goal. An example of a professional growth goal may be the strengthening of a culture of learning through content, expectations, and student pride. Every teacher provides goals that are similar, and meet all students’ needs by providing a measurable and consistent way to implement best practices that will support the growth and development of the whole child.
