Our staff attends professional development activities provided by our regional educational service program in Southwest ND. Topics covered in these activities over the past few years have included State Standards, National Common Core, Technology use in the classroom, and poverty.
- What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
-
Our first goal is always individual student success. Every student must be making adequate yearly progress, no matter how small the successes are. Each small student success adds up to large gains for our school.
This helps our school meet our second goal of State Adequate Yearly Progress. The combined efforts of students, parents, staff, and administration insure we are meeting our goals. Everyone wins when the students are successful. - What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
- The single most important factor of student success is having the full support of the entire school, from parents to students, and all staff members. Everyone has the same goal in mind, the same focus. Our goal of student success is part of everything we do from simple assignments in each class to whole school activities, like NWEA testing and rewards for reading.
- Explain how Title I funds have supported your improvement efforts.
- We use Title I funds to improve student/teacher ratio. It allows our district to employ more staff and thereby reach a higher number of students on individual levels. We use it to analyze data in our RTI program and implement individualized instruction based on data review. We can offer summer school programs with Title I funds. We use Title I funding to promote our independent reading program and use of the Accelerated Reading program.
- Identify the professional development activities you use to improve the teaching portion of the teaching and learning process.
- Our staff attends professional development activities provided by our regional educational service program in Southwest ND. Topics covered in these activites over the past few years have included State Standards, National Common Core, Technology use in the classroom, and poverty. In our school buildings, staff have participated in book studies covering academic topics such as brain based learning, reading essentials, and poverty. Staff also participate in state reading and math conferences, as well as attend courses on their own. Information gained in these activities are applied in individual classrooms and improve the staff’s ability to reach students who are struggling.
- Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
- Student success is data driven in our school. We use a number of assessments such as Aimsweb, Orchard, DIBELS, and NWEA scores to help identify students who may need individualized instruction. Classroom teachers also use academic data to drive instruction. State Assessment scores are used to further insure that our students are achieving their goals.
