Lone Oak Elementary School
PADUCAH, KY
Our school culture is based on student and staff members feeling loved and safe.
- Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
- Our family resource coordinator removes barriers for our families to create an equal educational playing field for all students. We feel that every student should have equal access to all school supplies, technology, clothing, and other needs. She works tirelessly with our families and establishes long term connections with them. She also hosts several different events featuring mother/son glow dance party, father/daughter dance, kindergarten elegant party, and other fun events to welcome families into our school. All families are treated equal and provided whatever they need to participate.
- Describe your philosophy of school change or improvement.
- All staff members at the school from the custodians in the cafeteria, to the preschool teachers, to the instructional assistants, to the tested grade level teachers, to the family resource coordinator, to the counselor every single staff member is an integral part of our student's success.
- Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
- Our school strongly believes that every student should be well 'fed.' That includes physically and emotionally. Physically through basic needs such as meals, supplies, clothing, and holiday assistance. Emotionally through positive relationships, quality instruction, character building, and recognition of self-worth. If you 'fed' them they will grow.
- Explain how ESEA federal funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
- We use our ESEA funds to fund our RTI teachers salaries. The sole purpose of the RTI teachers is to identify students that need extra supports in math and reading and give them extra individual and small group assistance.
- Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
- At Lone Oak Elementary we use Renaissance Star Test as our universal screener four times a year. We use this data as the basis for our Response to Intervention (RTI) Program. We meet monthly with our grade level teams, RTI Team, and Administration to discuss each student's scores and discuss student's classroom performance with their homeroom teacher. We use this information to identify gaps and how to meet individual student's needs. We have two teacher's assigned to our RTI program and service all of our RTI Tier III students.
- Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
- Our school culture is based on each student and staff member feeling loved and safe. We recognize student's outstanding classroom behavior by sending home positive emails and students come down to the principal's office to be celebrated and pick out a prize. Our administration team goes around monthly with a treat cart for our staff. We have an award assembly four times a year that celebrates the student's in not only academics but character and enrichment areas.
