New Stanley Elementary School
Kansas City, KS
Every day in Every way!
Describe specific programs in place to ensure that families are involved in the success of your school and students.
We have several opportunities for our families to engage and be involved in the success of the school and students. We have our school Parent Connection (PTA) and Title 1 advisory committee. Both of these programs meet twice per quarter. Families are encouraged to attend our Family Advocacy days where student lead conferences. We also have monthly activities for families to come out and support students in their learning and growing. These include Math night, Literacy night, Science night, Art Exhibits, and Cultural Festivals.
Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
New Stanley is an elementary school that is made up of various cultures. From African American, Caucasian, Asian, Somalian, Hispanic and many more, we definitely represent the historic Argentine community that we call home.
Located in the southern part of Wyandotte County, Kansas- New Stanley hosts an annual Cultural Festival in November for our families. This is a chance for all of us to come together as one, share stories, share tradition through music and foods, and celebrate diversity.
Describe your philosophy of school change or improvement.
New Stanley is made up of unique, talented, and knowledgeable staff members. By using their assets and connections within our community, we are able to better understand the needs of our students and make adjustments when needed.
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
Our overall goal is to build life-long learners that are productive citizens in our community. We want to give each student the tools they need to succeed in any career path they choose.

In order to get there, we know that our teachers will play a big role in this plan. That is why we as educators must continue to push our students to learn, excel, and pass state assessments.

What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
New Stanley believes that every student is held to the same expectation. By doing this, everyone is held accountable for their success and failures. This allows our students to be their best each and every day.
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
During our Professional Learning Communities, we as educators take those standards that we have been taught and find ways to prove they are impacting each student’s performance. This weekly meeting allows for us to find unique ways to reteach areas that students may not be excelling in.
Explain how ESEA federal funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
ESEA federal funds are used to support our improvement efforts by hiring additional staff in order to have smaller class sizes. This provides teachers opportunities for additional time to plan for the students’ needs as well as after school learning opportunities. The additional support that the ESEA federal funds provides makes a large impact with additional support through personnel and software. This helps to ensure that parents are involved in the school community and student learning through our monthly parent involvement evening.
Identify the critical professional development activities you use to improve teaching and student learning.
We are currently engaging all of our teachers in standards-based unit planning. This planning, allows teachers to truly grasp the understanding of a specific unit that is being taught, and from that, create supplemental material if needed to better teach the information
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
Data is used every single day in various ways. From teachers adjusting their lessons on a daily basis depending on how students are achieving, to weekly touch points on student improvement, to monthly assessments on what is working and what is not.
Strategic action plans are developed based on our findings. These plans include whole group and small group interventions for re-teaching of the standards. We then use the results to decide the best way to spend our funds and meet our student’s needs.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
Our vision is to develop as a community for the excellence of each child and our mission is learning, leading, achieving, together: Every day in Every way! We have continued to be consistent in holding high academic expectations for all of our learners. Our students are the
top priority as the staff works together not only ensure success academically but socially and emotionally as well. This is achieved by focusing on building strong relationships throughout the New Stanley Community. This includes the student to teacher relationships as well as teacher to family relationships.
