We strive to support one another and work together for the betterment of everyone in our school."
1. Tell us about your school’s success.
Our school has been able to find effective ways to reach students from a variety of backgrounds. Our teachers are phenomenal at utilizing methods that effectively help students in their academic success and growth. These methods have proven to be effective as we have continued to see our students meet their academic performance and growth goals over several years. Our school has also found effective ways to carry the banner as our veteran teachers have been excellent in collaborating and sharing effective strategies with our new and incoming teachers. On the flip side of that, our new teachers have been excellent at bringing in new and innovative approaches to teaching and our veterans have been awesome in being open to learning from our young teachers as well. In short, we love what we do, we love our students and genuinely care about their success, and we love each other and work hard to create a close knit relationship from teacher to teacher, teacher to student, and school to home!
2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
As mentioned above, we have been able to find success through collaboration. Our veteran teachers have been here and have seen what works and what doesn't work. We rely heavily on our veterans to help lead our ship to where we want it to go. However, we also rely on our new and young teachers to bring the latest and greatest to the table and our veterans have been great to lean on them and learn new and effective approaches to instruction. Aside from the strong teamwork we have in place, we also value our relationship with the community and we truly feel like we have the most invested, supportive, and caring parents in the world! Our parents are truly invested in their children and want them to succeed, and they are willing to do anything and everything they can to support us here at school as we strive to help their children learn and grown and reach their full potential!
3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
The funding that we have received has helped us tremendously. With our funding we have been able to hire additional staff members. We have funded both teachers and instructional assistants with this funding. Having more staff members in the building allows us to keep numbers slightly lower than average in comparison to other schools in our area. With these staff members we are also able to improve our interventions and more effectively differentiate our instruction for our various levels of learners. We have also utilized this funding to hire staff members to help drive our PBIS initiatives, which has helped us see academic success in the classroom. Without this funding, we absolutely would struggle to do all of the things we currently do that contribute to our overall academic success and growth.
4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
Our biggest investment has been getting all of our teachers involved with the Solution Tree Professional Development process, directly related to the PLC process. We have been sending teams of teachers down to Las Vegas for several years trying to better understand and utilize the PLC process. That training shows up frequently here at our school as teams meet and dig deep into the PLC process and identify very specific ways to plan to meet students' academic needs. Our school district has been great to help support our individual schools in that process as well. We have also utilized several key players in the professional development realm and have had several of those individuals come into our schools and directly coach both teachers and administrators. This has also made a positive difference for us as we continually look for ways to grow and improve as educators.
5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
Our shift has ultimately been to a family focus. We start by making sure our students know how much we love them and care for them. You will see and hear that message all over our school. That mindset and approach has also begun to show up in staff relationships as well. We strive to support one another and work together for the betterment of everyone in our school. Although we may have occasional disagreements, we are always able to work through those issues because we ultimately love and care for our students and we all want what is best for them. We also know that we love and care for each other and we understand that the only way we can meet our goals is to always remember that relationship! We have also put a lot of emphasis on our PBIS strategies and initiatives. Emphasizing this has helped us improve culture and improve relationships. We feel like our PBIS system is strong and we use it our strategies in every facet of our building.
6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
Our community is simply the best! I discussed several ways that our community contributes to our school's success in one of the responses above. However to reiterate that point, our community is fully invested in their children and our students. They also fully support our teachers and our staff and they are grateful for the effort we pour into helping their children succeed. As a school, we also fully appreciate them and value having them in our schools to support us in meeting academic goals for each student. Again, we feel like there is no better community in the world than the one we have right here in North Sevier Utah!
