De-Colonizing Brilliance: Working Together to Increase Representation in Gifted Ed

In this session, participants will examine curricular and pedagogical strategies for serving gifted students whose genius is being left on the table because of their familial income or English language learner status. They will also leave with an understanding of why increasing equity in gifted education is everyone's job, and why state policymakers and district leaders must act to help close the identification gap.

Katrice Quitter

Katrice Quitter has over a decade of experience in education, DEI, professional learning, and being committed to disrupting the status quo and creating equitable spaces that foster belonging, are antiracist, and center the experiences and humanity of marginalized children and communities. She has taught elementary, worked as an Instructional Coach, Gifted Intervention Specialist, Gifted Coordinator, and Educational Consultant designing and facilitating impactful professional learning for educators and administrators. Currently, as Head of Partnerships at thinkLaw, Katrice guides & supports school districts’ investment in building school environments where everyone must work toward closing the identification gap for under-identified gifted learners and critical thinking is no longer a luxury good for any student, regardless of their circumstances.
