Shut Down Learners: Crack the Code - Flip the Switch

There is a myriad of reasons under-resourced youth disengage from the learning process. From internal dialogue and fixed mindsets to external messaging and social pressure, students of all ages attend classes across the nation with little motivation, lack of engagement and failure to realize their incredible potential. Educators hold the key to cracking the code and helping to reignite an interest in the academic journey and a willingness to flip the motivational on–switch. Just as great coaches push athletes beyond where they think they are capable of going, great teachers also find the right buttons to push and barriers to eliminate so greater success can be achieved. Using the Framework and acronym INSPIRE, this workshop will explore seven keys to help educators reach kids, light the spark, and empower them as the CEO of their life. Attendees will leave with more tools to utilize in order to reach and teach more kids and help unleash their true potential.

Tara has spent the majority of her years in the classroom and coaching working with under-resourced youth in an array of settings; from her own rural district she grew up in, to gang territory in Long Beach and a large Title I district in Nashville serving over 45 nationalities. She has spoken nationally and internationally to a variety of organizations serving youth of all ages with a continued focus on how best to reach and teach kids whose life challenges present added barriers and hurdles to academic gains. She knows the 18" between the head and heart is a right of passage and that with under-resourced youth, earning that right is a huge step toward unleashing their true potential.
