Leaders Coming Together "Growing Your Own" Teachers in High Poverty/High Minority Schools

Thursday January 31, 2019
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
2504

Participants in this session will create an action plan through collaboration with state and local leaders to develop viable solutions designed to halt the alarming rate of teacher attrition in low income/high minority districts. Using the "Grow Your Own" paradigm, effective leaders will guide participants through a grass roots process of establishing and maintaining a proven and engaging initiative to support the recruitment, preparation, and retention of appropriate teacher candidates in low income/high minority areas. In addition, participants will learn about the process (under the guidance of ESSA) for how to effectively use Federal Program Funds for induction, onboarding, mentoring, and shadowing of all new teachers and administrators. Each participant will gain useful strategies to find leaders, build partnerships, identify teacher/leader candidates, resources, and next steps to address teacher attrition and ensure all students have an effective teacher every year.
