Since 2010, GA’s School Superintendent with assistance by the FSP Team in the Office of Federal Programs has convened a state Parent Advisory Council. This group of parents represents children and youth served in Title I funded school districts from across the state. Their role is to provide feedback on the GaDOE’s Title I, Part A family engagement initiatives and resources that impact students and families. This session will guide attendees through the process of how GA school systems nominate members of the PAC, how the PAC meetings are organized each school year, what the roles and expectations are, and which videos PAC members played a significant role. Participants will formulate a keen sense of what it takes to create and lead state/district Parent Advisory Councils to promote equity for all students based on process information shared during this session. Participants will compare and contrast lessons learned in other states through the exchange of stories, tips, and ideas.
