What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
1. Build and strengthen our community partnerships. Including our climate and culture within the school.
2. Increase student achievement.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
The single most important factor in the success of our school that others could replicate would be knowing our students and their needs (academic, emotional, etc.) and knowing our data in order to guide our instruction. By doing this we can prescribe exactly what they need and help them succeed and take it to the next level.
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
The programs or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement gaps is close monitoring of data and small group instruction. Basing lesson plans and activities on data pinpoints areas in need of re-teaching and extra support. MSTAR/ESTAR, Istation, Achieve 3000, IXL (math) and RM City provide excellent sources of data to use to guide our instruction and professional development as well.

Title 1 funds are used to support our improvement efforts by purchasing supplemental study materials. These materials include hands on manipulatives for math, STAAR, ITBS/Logramos prep materials,…These are crucial to help students to prepare for the format and rigor of our state assessments…

The critical pd activities we use to improve teaching and student learning…by using teacher led professional development sessions. By sharing ideas with each other, we build capacity and validate our teachers and their expertise. This also fosters our community of collaboration and teamwork.

Data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making in many ways. Each six weeks we administer common assessments. Teachers and students keep track of this data and look at growth or setbacks and set goals. With a focus on students tracking their own data (age/grade appropriate) there has been a shift in giving students ownership of their progress and setting goals.
