Chris Emdin believes the best teachers can be found in the unlikeliest of places. What do rap shows, barbershop banter and Sunday services have in common? Emdin suggests that they all hold the secret magic to enthrall and teach at the same time — and it’s a skill we often don't teach to educators.
That's why he founded Science Genius B.A.T.T.L.E.S. (Bring Attention to Transforming Teaching, Learning and Engagement in Science), an initiative focused on utilizing the power of hip-hop music and culture to introduce youth to the wonder and beauty of science. Emdin is a contributor to The Huffington Post and is an associate professor at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College.

Being effective teachers but having the power to engage students to keep their attention. Reminding teachers of the basic skills to engage students so that theory, standards etc. can be magic to them. He had enthusiam about his topic.
