Jose Hernandez - Supervisor of Transportation at Pasco School District, Pasco, WA. Jose Hernandez is originally from McAllen, Texas and migrated to Washington as a Migrant farm worker. He was the youngest of sixteen children and graduated from Walla Walla High School. He began his professional career by becoming a State Trooper for the WA State Patrol. He was assigned to the I-5 corridor as a freeway Trooper in Tacoma and Everett with a brief assignment in Yakima and Walla Walla. He also volunteered as a Reserve Police Officer for the Kennewick Police Department and Benton County Sheriff's Department. Hernandez left the patrol and began to work in Prevention/Intervention in 1988 in the Yakima Valley, In 1991 he went to work for the Kennewick School District as their Community Liason. He also served as he Safe and Drug-free School Director, Executive Director for Jubilee Youth Ranch, Student Services Coordinator, and Student Achievement Coordinator. During the past twenty years Jose has fulfilled his desire to serve families in the community and to work more directly with children. Although Jose faced many challenges in his childhood including domestic violence, alcoholism, and poverty, he was a survivor. With the support of two teachers who had the courage to visit his home, he was able to rise above the many issues associated with a dysfunctional family. He endured and found "hope in the midst of challenge." Today Hernandez has the privilege of 'paying it forward' by serving families who face similar challenges.
