This session will focus on practical strategies for providing academic support for neglected and delinquent youth - specifically youth survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation (Commercially Sexually Exploited Children - CSEC). Through the use of practical, research-based trauma-informed approaches in the classroom, CSEC and other youth can experience academic success. This session will include hands-on exploration of trauma-informed tools that have been utilized within our specific schools that have led to positive student outcomes; opportunities to practice trauma informed approaches within small groups; and practice identifying the specific warning signs that a youth who has potentially experienced sexual abuse/exploitation is negatively triggered and how to respond in real time. Finally, this session will enlighten attendees on how to establish collaborative relationships with external agencies to advance the academic success of these particular youth in the foster care system.
