Equitable Family-School Literacy Partnerships to Support High Early Literacy Outcomes
When families and schools partner to support children’s Prek-third grade literacy achievement, children have more opportunities to learn and practice essential literacy skills and grow as readers and writers. With guidance, many families from diverse backgrounds are interested in and able to conduct literacy learning activities at home with their children. The Michigan Department of Education with assistance from the Region 8 Comprehensive Center has developed a set of resources, informed by rigorous research, to support families, schools and child care providers in establishing equitable family-school literacy partnerships that result in high early literacy outcomes for all students. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of what are equitable family-school literacy partnerships, why it is important, and how to use the resources to establish such partnerships for high early literacy outcomes.
