Equitable Services for Private Schools - Tools and Resources for a Practical Approach

As local districts work to provide equitable services to private schools for federal programs, it can become a daunting task. From interpreting requirements, monitoring services, and determining which organization is responsible for different tasks, organization is key. This session will provide districts with the resources, timelines, and confidence it takes to successfully work with private schools to provide services to students, staff, and families.

Speakers
Laura Otten

Laura Otten has served as a School Improvement Consultant for Kent Intermediate School District for over ten years. She is responsible for guiding districts in the continuous improvement process, providing supports to Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools, serving as a State and Federal Programs resource, and assisting schools with family engagement. Laura has also worked as a classroom teacher, building principal, and is currently an active board member with the Michigan Association of State and Federal Program Specialists. Her work with local districts and private schools has launched a county-wide consortium for Equitable Services that have been working together for eight years. In addition, Laura has served on a statewide Non-Public Schools Work Group and presented to groups in Michigan multiple times on the topic of equitable services.
