Indigenous Responsiveness Through the Integration of Native American Literature

This presentation will include information about the Enemy Swim Day School Indigenous Responsive model and how it is implemented at the school. The school will share the foundations of their literacy program. The heart of the presentation is the school's Bureau of Indian Education's CLSD (Comprehensive Literacy State Development) grant which included blended learning, foundational skill development, vocabulary, and the integration of Native American Literature into the core Literacy/ELA curriculum which helped to increase the school reading proficiency levels over 15%. This session will focus on the integration of the native literature and showcase the process and finished products that were developed. Attendees will be provided a list of Native American literature books that were purchased and considered and a list of units developed. Participants will have time to collaborate with each other interactively.
