Leading Through an Equity Lens

Learn how to transform your organizational culture and improve student outcomes by executing new initiatives through an equity lens. Author and facilitator, Dr. Kim Wallace offers leaders a practical course of action to amplify opportunities and diminish systemic barriers for historically marginalized students. Participants will be encouraged and equipped to keep their equity lens wide open and zeroed in on serving students that have been traditionally denied access to a quality TK–12 education by responsibly and responsively infusing initiatives into their organizations. Leaders will be prompted to ask the right questions, connect the dots between positive intentions and generating change, and implement new initiatives with integrity. There will be ample opportunity for participant discussion, inquiry, and application, personally customizable to variety of settings.

Kim Wallace

Dr. Kim Wallace started her career in public education almost three decades ago as a high school teacher and instructional coach before moving into site administration. After earning her doctorate in Educational Leadership from UC Davis, Kim was promoted to Director of Instructional Technology and then Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. In 2017, she became the superintendent of Fremont Unified—one of the top twenty largest districts in California—where Kim discovered a true passion for creating systems to navigate organizational progress. As such, she developed a structure to regulate programs, protocols, and adoptions districtwide. Her first book, Leading the Launch, (Solution Tree, 2021) outlines this field-tested ten-stage process for successfully vetting and sustaining new initiatives in schools and districts. Her second book, Leading Through an Equity Lens, (Solution Tree, 2021) builds on the implementation process with a focus on equity-centered leadership. Dr. Wallace currently works at the University of California, Berkeley administering a statewide grant that provides coaching and professional learning to K–12 administrators. She also runs her own professional consultancy company Process Makes Perfect, specializing in real-world solutions for educators. Kim consults, writes, and presents internationally on the topics of authentic leadership, change management, strategic planning, and emerging trends in education.
