U.S. Department of Education: Family Engagement: Going Beyond the Requirements with Special Focus on English Learners and Families Receiving Special Education Services
This session will describe why family engagement is important, describe the Statewide Family Engagement Centers Program, and provide resources that schools and districts can use to engage families. Resources and best practices will also provided for English Learner families and families receiving special education services. After this session audiences will be able to describe outcomes and benefits from family engagement and identify and use resources and strategies to re-engage families and student

Beth Yeh
Beth Yeh is the team leader for the Statewide Family Engagement Center and the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Programs in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education. She has worked at the Department for twenty years on program evaluations and literacy. Beth earned a bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree from the L.B.J. School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. She is a mother of two children.

Carmen Sánchez is an Education Program Specialist in the Office of Special Education Programs at the US Department of Education; the program lead for the Parent Center Program, which consists of grants for Parent Training and Information (PTIs) and Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs)
