How Building Leaders Assess and Advance Equity and Excellence in High-Performing Schools
Many building leaders want equitable and excellent learning results for their students; however, they are often challenged to determine specifically what needs to change and how to initiate change processes in ways that will lead to excellent learning results for students from all racial/ethnic groups, language groups, and income groups. How does a building leader determine where to start? How does one begin to improve the nature of the school culture, the rigor of curricula, and the effectiveness of instruction for every demographic group, especially when some educators might resist change? For 13 years, the National Center for Urban School Transformation has been identifying and studying school leaders who have successfully advanced equity and excellence for their students. This workshop will provide concrete tools and clear suggestions for helping leaders assess their schools and make positive steps toward equity and excellence.
