I am The Trauma Whisperer

Wednesday January 30, 2019
9:30 - 10:30 AM
Grand Ballroom 2501 C

The Call to Adventure: Educators are heroes. In predominately Title I schools, they are hanging on by a hair follicle; tension has arrived at the door by the way of Adverse Childhood Experiences. The heroes are in danger of vicarious trauma and need a mentor with shared experiences, desires, and goals. I am the mentor; they call me The Trauma Whisperer. During this interactive lecture, attendees will shift from a punitive towards a trauma sensitive mindset as I guide them using dramatic techniques. By the conclusion of the session, participants will have begun to think differently about trauma, including their own trauma history and easily practice and apply the evidence-based techniques. The ultimate goal: Transforming heroes into mentors.
