Have you ever wondered how you could get students to generate their own questions? Do you want to know a way to better build your students’ background knowledge and academic vocabulary? It’s time to move over; take your hands off of the steering wheel and scoot to the passenger-side. In this interactive (BYOD) workshop, participants will learn how to facilitate rather than dictate students’ acquisition of knowledge. Using a Problem Based Learning framework with a focus on STEM, we will explore a range of instructional strategies to promote critical discourse and empower students to take ownership of their learning. Participants will walk away with tools that will enable students to dissect and comprehend complex text, efficiently research to promote authentic learning, and competently collaborate to solve a real-world problem/project. This session will provide professional learning for teachers, administrators, and district leaders, alike.
