Social and Emotional Learning binds us all together and molds the way we learn and experience school. Our students bring their emotions to school. Their emotions help them make meaning of the education we provide them. It is critical that we take a proactive stance to teaching and understanding our students' Social and Emotional needs. It is essential we make connections with our students beyond the information we teach them. This session will address what standards are already in place to address these needs and will uncover some of the history that has led to the current status of Social and Emotional Learning in education. In this discovery, you will have the chance to see several best practice teaching strategies that can be used in any classroom pre-k to 12 that foster Social and Emotional Learning. In the second part of this session, I will ask you to consider your own Social and Emotional skills. We will investigate how your skills can impact the students you work with.
