In schools across the country, educators and leaders collaborate to overcome challenges to achieve this goal. Selma Middle School, a rural school in North Carolina, is one such school that has identified key ingredients to school improvement. In sharing Selma’s journey, this presentation offers practical insights and actionable steps for administrators and educators to implement sustainable improvement initiatives tailored to the unique needs of their school.

Principal Baker fosters school improvement by cultivating culture, accountability, and leadership among faculty, staff, and students. With a background in leading three successful turnarounds and serving as an Academic Officer, he is driven by a passion for positive change in education. He believes in creating a shared vision to pave the way for progress in schools.
Heather Gibson

Since 2001, Gibson has demonstrated a dedication to education, starting as an elementary teacher for 16 years. Transitioning to a teaching and learning coach in Johnston County, She spent the last 5 years as a Multi-Classroom Leader at Selma Middle School, now serving as the Lead MCL.

Ebony Jason is experienced in coaching and curriculum design, facilitation of professional development for instructional needs for educators, school culture change implementation, and more.
