Strengthening the Home School Connection for English Learners and Other High Need Students
Family/caregiver support is key to student success, specifically when it comes to enhancing the teaching and learning process with multilingual learners. ESSA prioritizes family engagement by moving related activities from “allowable” to “required” in the new Title III legislation/guidance. Dr. Jobi Lawrence from UCLA’s National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards and Student Testing (CRESST) will share the importance of strengthening the home-school connection and shifting a focus from engagement to empowerment. Strategies to connect with families and communities will be provided in this session.
