Emphasis will be made on strategies that focus on language across the curriculum by building prior knowledge, using differentiated instruction, providing explicit vocabulary instruction, using graphic organizers, and establishing home-school connections. Support acquisition of English and Spanish literacy by incorporating the following strategies into the curriculum:  research-based strategies for informational text literacy, content vocabulary, and academic language;  strategies for literacy development (oral language development, reading and writing) of all students;  language support strategies for ELL and DLL;  linguistic scaffolding for ELLs and dual language learners during classroom discourse;  drawing on students' home language as instructional support; and  building students' science vocabulary and informational text reading strategies.
