In this session, strategies supporting equitable opportunities will be shared with participants including the support of language acquisition in the classroom, as well as practices that help create a positive and inclusive learning environment. As trends tend to change and EL populations grow, it is critical for educators to continuously meet the needs of diverse learners by creating equitable opportunities for students in the classroom with a culturally responsive curriculum.
Katie McIlwain has taught ELs for 12 years and has led and participated in numerous district wide professional development. She has also presented at the Federal Programs Conference and attended the WIDA conference.
Dr. Monika Hasanbasic has taught ELs for 12 years, has led and participated in numerous district wide professional development and completed her dissertation research on the identities of Second-Generation Bosnian Americans.
