School Improvement: Focused Planning for Sustainable Progress and Change

The Office of Early Learning and Intervention (ELI) at the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) developed a required planning year for SIG schools in the new SY 15-16 cohort. This dynamic session will showcase how this support and planning for SIG has helped to focus schools' efforts around leadership, data, and effective instruction to build sustainable practices in their schools. School, local, and state level leaders will hear how this process has helped SIG schools to empower stakeholders, communicate effectively to build a culture of shared responsibility, focus on the needs of the building and students, and plan sustainable practices for implementation.

Cindy Hurst

Cindy works with school improvement grantees, both through 1003(g) SIG and 1003(a) funds.  She recently helped develop a statewide planning framework that includes components for schools in improvement and Title I Schoolwide.  Her work on school improvement started when she worked on Title I, Part A and included developing improvement processes for Title I schools that were transitioning from Title I Targeted Assistance Schools to Title I Schoolwide Programs. She has been with the Indiana Department of Education since 2001.
