Survival of the Fittest: Federal Education Legislation

Attendees at this session will hear about progress made by this Congress in reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as well as passing fiscal/appropriations and other relevant legislation. The presentation will discuss political goals, factors at play, and what to watch as we head into the 2016 election year. Ms. Martin will cover recent legislative and administrative action related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Higher Education Act (HEA), the Carl D. Perkins Act, and other federal education programs. Attendees will also learn how ESEA waivers offered by the U.S. Department of Education, and other administrative policies, affect the administration’s relationship with Congress and the future of federal education policy.
