Barb Flis
Barb Flis is Founder of Parent Action for Healthy Kids and an advocate focused on connecting families, schools and communities to help promote the well-being of children’s social, emotional and physical health. Barb is a nationally recognized thought leader and skilled facilitator, with years of experience bringing key stakeholders together as positive, engaged partners and active advocates for children and adolescents. Barb is a compelling keynote speaker, master workshop facilitator and highly skilled family engagement specialist. She takes pride in all the work she does, whether it be with a local community or at the state and federal level. Barb is humbled when reflecting on her grass-root beginnings as a PTA Mom, and now bringing the parent voice to her work with the Michigan Departments of Education and Health and Human Services; the 2018 Kirby Summit; former First Lady Michelle Obama in the development of the parent toolkit for the “Let’s Move” initiative; former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm developing the "Talk Early & Talk Often®" curriculum; CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health; DOE Safe and Supportive Schools; SAMSHA Safe Schools Healthy Students and Project Aware; and many more local, state and national organizations. Barb has the uncanny ability to listen to others and help them re-frame traditional views on families in a way that celebrates all who support children.
