In 2013, Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin was named Superintendent of Schools for the Thomasville City School District.  Since her arrival, Thomasville City Schools has seen increases in state mandated tests and the current graduation rate is at an all-time high and now exceeds the state average.  During the beginning of Race to the Top efforts, Thomasville City Schools was listed as one of the lowest achieving school districts in NC and today the school district is no longer on the NC Low Performing School District list.  Also in 2014, Thomasville City Schools was named to the College Board’s 5th Annual AP® District Honor Roll for increasing AP participation, while increasing student success on AP exams.  Before coming to Thomasville, Dr. Pitre-Martin served as the State Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and she also served on the North Carolina Race to the Top Implementation team.
